After meals at your facility, chances are staff is busily clearing tables, wiping them down, doing dishes and sweeping the floors. Often, this is all happening while residents are sitting and waiting for staff to finish so they can move on to the next activity or help them with something. Why not invite the residents to help with these daily chores?
Not only will this engage residents in some beneficial physical activity, but also gives them a sense of purpose. Start off by choosing one or two residents who can follow verbal directions and give them a simple job. They may not do it perfectly, but that’s ok! Other residents may see this and want to help too. Let us know how it goes!
